GENETICS
THE COWHERD
The Lemke cowherd genetics run deep with maternal, performance and carcass traits and is the factory which consistently produces top quality bulls for our customers. We have utilized an extensive A.I. program for over 30 years and has continued to expand our embryo transfer program over the last 15 years to multiply our top genetics.
Both the registered and commercial cows are run together and managed the same way. Cows graze most of the year on native grass pastures in spring and summer, and on corn stalks and winter pasture in the fall and early winter. Cows are expected to raise calves that weigh at least half their own body weight at weaning from grass, water, salt and mineral only. No creep feed is ever fed to any calves. This allows for a more accurate evaluation and comparison of a cow’s true production ability.
THE SIRES
Sire selection is crucial at Lemke Cattle. By individually mating females with the correct sires, we can maintain a cow’s strengths and improve her weaknesses. The result is the “right kind” of phenotype in cattle that balance and excel in multiple traits. Study these breed leaders!
